Did you know that pets can get sunburnt too? In fact, pets, just like humans, can get skin cancer from prolonged sun exposure.

Pink skin (usually underlying white hair) is most at risk. Ear tips and noses are also at risk. Here are some pet sun safety tips:

1) Do not allow white-coated pets to sunbathe for long periods.

2) Keep pets indoors or under cover during the middle of the day when UV exposure is at its highest.

3) Apply pet-friendly sunscreen to noses, ear tips and other areas of exposed white skin.

4) Make an appointment with your vet immediately if you see any new lumps, bumps or discoloured skin.

Skin cancer and solar dermatitis can be treated if caught early, but prevention is always better than cure!
